I remember working at a company and we were using ADB keyboards forever. I've only ever had keyboards die when cleaning them. Sounds like a problem with voltage regulation on the USB ports. I don't think I've seen a USB port mess stuff up like that, but you could always try getting a cheap powered hub and sticking that between the computer and peripherals as well as avoiding that port.

Same with Bluetooth, there are 3rd party wireless full keyboards. Don't forget also that any old USB keyboard should work just fine, might save a bit getting something else. In a big enough sample it will happen, even a 1% failure rate adds up across a large installed base. So, might be something with that iMac, or alternatively perhaps you've just had bad luck. They're grungy as hell now but they still work. I've still got one or two that came with PowerMac G4s. I'd make sure you plug the next one into a different USB port. In any case, they're both several years old and have never given me the faintest sign of crapping out. Mine at work has been running since 2009, at home, I think it was purchased very shortly after the current style (flat) came out, whenever it was. Maybe, you have turned on the Filter keys.

Take a look at them The keyboard and system drivers are outdated, corrupt, or missing. Gah, I love this iMac, but this is driving me nuts. Why Function (Fn) Keys Not Working on Windows 10 However, below listed down are significant issues that stop Fn keys to work accurately. I find amazing that Apple has not found yet a way to add those keys on their bluetooth designs, really. I dunno if my iMac has a killer USB port or what, but holy crap, it is the lowest tech peripheral in the frigging planet.Īny ideas on why this is going on? And no, I don´t want a wireless keyboard.

I don´t think it has to be that frigging hard to design these things. I am now typing in an ancient Logitech keyboard that I have had around since 2004, by the way. The USB plugs on the keyboards, by the way, have always been useless, as they made the things crash and stop working.

I am really flabbergasted on why this keeps happening - the iMac plays perfectly well with every other peripheral out there, but it eats keyboards. The whole plugging it into the Vaio worked for a while, but today it did not come back. Today, barely seven months into the life of our third USB keyboard, it again bit the dust. Usually plugging it in onto my Sony laptop "resurrected" it, and was back again working when plugged, until it finally stopped coming back. Second lasted six months, occasionally crapping every other week. The first one died less than a year since we got the Mac got replaced it under warranty. I have a 27 inch iMac (mid 2011) that seems to devour Apple USB keyboards.
